Menopause is a normal, natural part of the aging process for all women. It is marked as having occurred after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period. The average age for menopause is approximately 51, but it may occur much earlier or much later.

Significance
Menopause marks the end of a woman's fertile, reproductive years. Women who experience late menopause may become pregnant in their 50s or 60s. These pregnancies are considered high risk for both the baby and the mother.

Considerations
Late menopause has been linked to increased risks of ovarian cancer, according to the National Ovarian Cancer Association. The risk for ovarian cancer is greatest for women between the ages of 60 and 70.

Function
During menopause, the body ceases production of certain hormones such as estrogen. A woman who experiences late menopause may have an increased risk for breast and uterine cancer as a result of her body's continued exposure to estrogen.

Effects
Undergoing late menopause appears to increase the risk of developing endometrial cancer, according to Penn State University's Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The connection between late menopause and endometrial cancer is not clearly understood.

Hot Pepper is Useful for Sinus Problem

People suffering from the common cold or allergies or infections often have inflamed or infected sinuses. When the sinuses are irritated, they can become swollen and mucus collects and thickens, leading to more complicated issues. Nasal irrigation with the use of a neti pot has brought relief to those suffering from sinus problems. Adding hot pepper to your neti pot can speed up its effectiveness.

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the neti pot solution in the neti pot. Pour a half a cup of warm water into the neti pot. The water should be as close to your body temperature as possible. Use a thermometer to check the water temperature. Water too hot or too cold can actually have a negative effect on the sinuses. Add one teaspoon of sea salt and a 1/4 tsp. of baking soda and 1/4 tsp. of hot pepper powder into the pot. Stir the solution until it is completely dissolved.

Step 2

Position your head over a sink with the neti pot and a box of tissues within arm's reach. Blow your nose. Tilting your head over the sink, slowly place the neti pot opening into one of your nostrils and begin to pour. Allow the solution to work its way throughout your sinus cavity and come out the other nostril. Blow your nose to rid the sinuses of the excess mucus. Repeat the process on the other nostril.

Step 3

Prepare the same solution except this time pour it into a reusable nasal spray bottle. Take the hot pepper nasal spray with you throughout your day to maintain clear sinuses. Close off one nostril by placing your hand over it. Place the nasal spray bottle tip up the other nostril. As you squeeze the solution into the nostril, take a deep breath to propel the solution deep into the cavity. Spray two to three times and then repeat the process on the other nostril. This will cause the sinuses to drain, so have tissues prepared before attempting to use the nasal spray in public.
